A Place in the Sun's Laura Hamilton shut down by 'tricky' buyers who cut search short

Buyers on A Place in the Sun were so hard to please that they cut the search short on today's show.

Channel 4 host Laura Hamilton was helping Janine and Mark from Stockport find their perfect holiday home around the Western Dordogne region of France. Having being married for 20 years and with two grown up children they felt like now was the right time to buy their dream home in their favourite holiday spot.

With a maximum budget of £230,000, the couple hoped for an acre of land with plans to turn their property into a glamping site as well as a home. They hoped for a small village or town within walking distance so that their guest could enjoy the local amenities too.

Ideally, they also wanted a detached property with at least three bedrooms. And they had hopes of owning their own private swimming pool too.

But the search got off to a rocky start as Laura "didn't get the reaction she was hoping for". She showed them a four-bedroom house with lots of land, but the couple were unimpressed.

Laura explained: "I appreciate it doesn’t have the character but I brought you here because it's a three-bedroom with the possibility of gîte." But as they looked around the property, Mark said: "It's just not doing it for us whatsoever."

Janine added that she "wasn't feeling it" as they described it as "dark" and "closed in". Mark added: "Just a square box isn't it?"

The remainder of the search was very hit and miss as the second one seemed to go a bit better. It was another four bed house which the couple described as "homey" with "a lot of character".

But it was back to square one with the third property, as the couple were unimpressed once more. Meanwhile, the fourth left the buyers thinking as they didn't fully love or hate it.

Laura admitted that the search hadn't been plain sailing as she said: "It’s been somewhat of a tricky search but I’ve got two contenders and one last chance." However, things only went from bad to worse on the final home.

Before even entering the property, Janine said: "No, I'm not feeling it." But Laura powered through despite being instantly shut down.

The couple continued to show discontent and Laura decided to finally call it quits. She asked: "Do you want me to leave it?" Janine replied: "“I think we should leave it here I don’t see any point in looking further."

A Place in the Sun airs on Channel 4 on weekdays at 4pm.
