A Place in The Sun’s Jonnie Irwin reveals summer plans with family amid terminal cancer battle

Jonnie Irwin has opened up about his hopes of getting to spend some quality time with his family at a musical festival this summer as he continues to battle terminal cancer.

The former A Place In The Sun presenter, 49, sparked concern for his health last month after revealing that he had celebrated his 50th birthday early despite not being due to turn the milestone age until November.

Now, the TV star, who shares sons Rex, 3, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac with his wife Jessica, is eyeing up Lindisfarne festival for them to go to, which he said they attended last year and enjoyed.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “Went to this last year and had a great time. Praying for good weather- Rex is probably just praying for more sugar! #lindisfarnefestival.” He also posted heartwarming pictures of his family at last year’s festival.

This year’s festival runs from August 31 until September 3 at Beal Farm in Northumberland, with a music line-up including bands Primal Scream and Pendulum.

He also shared a series of sweet throwback pictures of himself and his eldest son at last year’s festival.

Irwin was given just six months to live when he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in August 2020, and publicly shared his prognosis in December. He has since revealed that the cancer has spread to his brain.

In a health update last month, Irwin told The Sun: “I’m weak now, fragile and my memory is terrible… but I’m still here.”
