A Place in the Sun's Jonnie Irwin denies 'starving' himself through terminal cancer battle

Former A Place in the Sun presenter Jonnie Irwin has denied fears that he is 'starving himself', in a health update detailing his brand-new diet plan.

The TV star revealed that he had been living with terminal cancer in November, after lung cancer had unfortunately spread to his brain.

Since opening up on his war with the disease, Jonnie has kept his fans regularly updated with his day to day activities - from family trips away in the lakes to trying out a new diet.

The 49 year old was first diagnosed back in 2020 but only told the public in November 2023, during which time he revealed that it had spread to his brain and he had been given just months to live. Jonnie recently met the author of How To Starve cancer and took to Instagram to tell his followers he is undergoing a tailor made diet in an attempt to starve the tumour.

Sharing a photo of the shellfish meals he was trying, the dad-of-three explained: "For those who are worried that l'm starving myself don't worry. I'm not. I'm trying to starve a tumour by blocking its feeding pathways, by taking 'off label' drugs as well as a tailored diet -losing weight is deffo not the aim!

Author Jane Mclelland was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cervical cancer aged 35 and was given a one-in-20 chance of surviving five years. She has now been in remission since 2004.

Back in January, Jonnie shared a picture of himself with Jane and said: "Was a privilege to meet my mentor Jane Mclelland today, author of @how_to_starve_cancer. Her story is truly an inspiration and in my opinion a must read for anyone affected by cancer.

"It's inspired me to change my lifestyle and importantly given me hope in an otherwise hopeless situation. Don't get me wrong- it's bloody hard but l'm on board!"

Jonnie was diagnosed with cancer while filming Channel 4's A Place In The Sun in Italy in 2020. He was driving when he found his vision had become blurred and doctors at home discovered he was terminally ill.
