A Place in the Sun presenter issues warning to Scots dreaming of a move to Spain

A Place in the Sun presenter has warned people dreaming of a move to Spain to be wary of house prices.

The country has been touted as a cheap place to move to for years, reports Birmingham Live. However, people are being urged to do their research before shopping around, as house prices are yet to recover.

Presenter of A Place in the Sun, Laura Hamilton, had to give her guest "a reality check" on pricing when she gave her a tight budget. The Channel 4 show depicted guest Jennie trying to purchase a two-bedroom holiday home in the Costa del Sol in Spain, with a small budget of £85,000.

Laura felt forced to step in and give Jennie some advice on her amount of cash available to stick on a home.

The presenter said: "I have to give you a serious reality check, a budget of under £90,000 for a two-bedroom property is going to be exceptionally tough.

"So I think in terms of your budget, we are definitely going to need to have some flexibility there."

Jennie was shown a handful of properties in Estepona - but the flats were smaller than she anticipated. The guest decided not to make an offer on any of the properties.

TV presenter Laura believes that many foreign buyers haven't realised that the Spanish property market hasn't recovered.

Spanish house prices posted their biggest yearly increase since the boom period before the global financial crisis this year.

Prices jumped nine per cent in January compared to the year before, according to a monthly index compiled by Fotocasa, a real estate website. This was the sharpest rise since September 2006.
