A Place in the Sun buyers hit with rain, cold and 'windowless' darkness

A Place in the Sun buyers were hit by rain, cold and darkness when trying to find their own little slice of paradise in the sun.

Jasmine Harman helped Lou and Tony look for their dream holiday home. They had a budget of £350,000 to buy a property that they could retire to in Tenerife.

The couple, from West Yorkshire, wanted a property where they could grow some tropical fruits in a secluded area but close to a hub. They hoped for a quirky home with character with a minimum of three bedrooms.

At one point in the episode of the Channel 4 property show, the British weather seemed to have followed the married couple as they stood alongside Jasmine holding huge umbrellas. The rain pelted down on them dressed in their summer clothes, desperate to find a place in the sun.

But the misery didn't end there as they were shown a traditional three-bedroomed country house with a fruitful garden and an extravagant entertaining space including BBQ and pizza oven. However, there was one thing that the property didn't have much of.

Walking into the living room of the house, Lou asked: "Is there a window in here?" Jasmine pointed to one very small square window in the corner. Lou added: "Just that one?"

Jasmine tried to reason as to why there wasn't much natural light in the room. She said: "I mean if you think about it, 200 years ago when this was built, they build in this style to keep the interior dark and cool so that you wouldn't get lots of sun coming in." Tony said: "It looks beautiful and it is beautifully done."

He continued: "But it does feel a bit hemmed in for me. And probably not what I was expecting for a second home in the sun where it's quite dark."

Tony later said: "The main reason we wanted to buy somewhere was to escape the winter and be in the sunshine. While it is a beautiful house it's just too dark and probably too cold."
