A Place in the Sun buyer admits 'budget is wrong' after seeing grim home

A buyer on A Place in the Sun admitted that her budget may be wrong on today's show.

Laura Hamilton helped Tina look for the perfect place to retire to and enjoy all-year round sunshine. With the help of her son Nick, they all headed off to Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria with a budget of £120,000.

She hoped for a home with two bedrooms, outside space and a swimming pool. Although she didn't mind a home with one bedroom as long as it was spacious.

The search didn't get off to the best start as Laura showed a one-bedroomed apartment with a shared pool and an amazing view. It was under budget at £111,000 but Tina didn't seem overly keen on first look.

Walking into the property, the buyer described it as "nice and clean" but "compact". She said it was too small as she struck it off the list of contenders.

The next home was on the market for £107,000 meaning it was well within budget. Inside the one and a half bedroom home there were views looking out to sea.

The second bedroom was homed in a "quirky" mezzanine. But Tracy was still unimpressed as she said the home was still too small. Nick said: "You couldn't swing a cat in here".

Fans on Twitter agreed that the homes so far weren't the best. One user said: "That’s awful it looks like a squat #aplaceinthesun."

David said: "Quirky or just plain grim ? #aplaceinthesun".

Back on the show, Laura said: "Ok, so so far we don't have any contenders." It was at that point that Tina realised that she may not get what she wanted for her money.

Nick joked: "You'll have to put your hand in your pocket." Tina added: "That's what I'm thinking... Maybe my budget is wrong."

Laura reassured her as she said: "Well, it's not so much that it's wrong. But I do think that we have to manage your expectations."
