A pillowcase can have more bacteria than a toilet seat - if you don't wash you sheets often enough

It’s estimated the average person sheds about 15 million skin cells each night.

But don’t worry it’s not like there are millions of dead skin cells just left on your sheets for you to lie in... no it’s much worse than that.

Instead there are dust mites crawling around your bed waiting to gobble up all your dead skin cells.

And the longer you wait between washes, the more food they will have and the more they'll procreate and multiply, reports Business Insider.

So the longer you wait to wash your sheets, you could end up with hundreds of thousands of these critters crawling around your bed.

But it’s not just dust mites lurking in your unwashed sheets. No there is also fungus and fungal spores.

Not to mention an unwashed pillow case can carry up to 39 times more bacteria than pet-food bowls and several thousand times more bacteria than a toilet seat.

Fortunately, there's a simple way to avoid all of these disgusting things.

Wash your sheets, and wash them often.

Experts recommend about once a week using the hottest water possible. That'll kill a lot of bacteria and dust mites as well as getting out any stains.
