A peacock is on the loose in a Welsh village and it's walking around the deserted streets like it owns the place

A peacock is on the loose in a Welsh village and he's appearing in the most random of places.

Charlie, as he's become known by the locals, has been spotted in various places around Ynysybwl, near Pontypridd, after he escaped earlier this week.

Now people are looking out for him in their gardens, walking the streets and basically, anywhere, just in case they get a chance to see the peacock that has been cheering people up in isolation.

He's become so well-loved in Ynysybwl that a Facebook page has now been set up in his honour.

You can now track Charlie's whereabouts by following the Spot the 'Cock Facebook page.

Resident Claire Griffiths, 44, who set up the page, said: "I made the page for a laugh and I've had so many messages saying how it has made people's day and cheered them right up.

"I'm struggling like everyone, but I've got to say this page has sure lifted my spirits."

It's thought Charlie has escaped so is now just roaming the area.

Locals are now constantly looking out for him, sharing their pictures of sightings and generally just joining in with the fun of it all via the Facebook page.

So far he's been spotted crossing the road, climbing garage roofs and trying to get inside someone's chimney - just to name a few of his adventures.

Resident Rebecca House Howe, 35, added: "I’ve been wandering the streets with my kids in their pyjamas this morning because we could hear him and they didn’t want to wait to get dressed.

"They’ve been desperate to see him and it’s really brightened their day!"

As well as exploring all areas, the cheeky chappy has also been visiting people's gardens and surprising people when they go for their daily exercise.

Even though he's giving some people a bit of a shock, he's also making isolation a lot more exciting for people who live in the area.

Over 300 people are now following Charlie's whereabouts on Facebook, and locals are claiming he's "giving us a laugh in these trying times."
