Stoke City issue painful reminder of Nottingham Forest's evening of 'filth'

It was the final nail in the coffin of Nottingham Forest’s season.

And little do Reds fans need reminding of yet another dark, dark night in the club’s history.

So, step forward Stoke City - and we thought we were friends.

Just as Reds fans were beginning to emerge from behind the sofa, to get their first glimpses of daylight in a week, the Potters were on hand to give them a right old kick between the legs, where it hurts - back behind the sofa we go, clearly it still remains unsafe out there.

Any hope a shell-shocked Sabri Lamouchi had of seeing his players recover from blow after blow in the final 20 minutes came to a shuddering end, thanks to a man who was on the wanted list at the City Ground under Martin O'Neill.

James MacClean’s breakaway run as Forest chased a vital goal was diverted into his own net by the hapless Nuno da Costa - the Cape Verde international the sole outfield attendee inside the penalty area as the beleaguered hosts were pulled to pieces.

And just like that, Forest’s best season - well in seasons, had crash landed in a style that only this football club would be capable of, in fact, there’s almost an element of pride at how catastrophic Forest’s falls can be and this was another to add to a list that makes you weep.

Here’s to you Stoke City, thanks for the memories and thanks for bringing them all flooding back.

Now, stop with your reminders otherwise Wednesday nights for the foreseeable future will be unbearable!
