A 'paddle out' for suicide prevention

ON Saturday morning at sunrise, surfers are set to paddle out to remember those they have loved, and lost, to suicide.

Registrations are now open for the paddle out at Merewether Beach, which will begin at 6am on March 7.

The free event, held during Surfest and hosted by non-profit community group, Another Sunrise, aims to start a conversation about mental health and suicide prevention, while remembering those who have passed. Organiser Rachel Henshaw said it was time to "open the door" and create a "deeper awareness" of mental health issues. They wanted to connect with other mental health groups to provide a "safety net".

Paddle Out: Register for this year's Another Sunrise paddle out event at eventbrite.com.au.

"We are working hard to make a positive impact on community social resilience in mental health," she said. "Come down and show your support, and connect with your community.

"All participants are required to register to ensure maximum safety."

Another Sunrise is also seeking supporting sponsors.
