A Nightingale's Song lights up historic landmark like never before

An enchanting light extravaganza that's illuminating buildings along the coastline began tonight.

This weekend, three Sefton landmarks are being lit up over consecutive nights as part of A Nightingale’s Song.

Beginning with a dazzling projection at Waterloo Town Hall this evening, the special event continues tomorrow at Bootle Town Hall and finishes on Sunday at The Atkinson in Southport .

The large scale video projections weave together tales from Sefton borough’s history with magic and myth.

The event has been created for Sefton’s year as Borough of Culture, with organisers describing it as, "a tale of magic and wonder, of myths and wondrous creatures, spectacular nature, of ships and sailing, of peoples past and present".

Sefton Council confirmed on Friday morning that the event was going ahead, having been waiting on updated government guidance in light of the coronavirus outbreak.

The shows will still take place from 8pm each evening, with people asked to arrive early and use public transport if possible.

Sefton Council said anyone planning to attend the shows should continue to take steps to reduce the spread of germs by catching sneezes in a tissue, binning used tissues, then washing/sanitising hands.

Following national guidance, anyone with a cough or a fever is asked to not attend any of the events and to self-isolate for seven days.

Sefton Council reassured residents it is working closely with Public Health England, the NHS and all health and care partners to prevent further spread of the virus.
