
The old town of Phrae is well known among culture buffs for its wealth of heritage architecture, from beautiful teak mansions to Lanna-style Buddhist temples, some of which date back centuries. Not many people, however, get to visit these sites during night-time. But here's the chance.

Once a month from December until May, the northern city is holding the Phrae Sightseeing Night Tour, which will take participants along a trail to selected attractions that are normally not open after sunset.
During the two-hour outing, starting at 6pm, tram-shaped buses will leave from Khum Chao Luang, the residence of former Phrae rulers, to architectural and historical gems within the old town and nearby areas.
Sites included in the programme are, namely, Wat Phrabat Ming Muang, Pratu Chai (Victory Gate), Luang Si Nakhara Villa, Wat Sa Bo Kaeo, the Free Thai Museum, Wat Chom Sawan, Wat Hua Khuang, Wat Si Chum, Wat Luang, Wat Phong Sunan, Khum Wichai Racha, the Old City Wall, the former Forestry School, Chetawan Riverfront, Wat Phra Non, Khum Wong Buri and the City Pillar Shrine.
Each of the guided trips will include shows by local performers at one of the places mentioned. The venue will differ for different trips.
The Saturday-night tours are scheduled for Dec 8, Jan 12, Feb 9, March 9, April 13 and May 11.
The basic fee is 150 baht per person. Those who also wish to try a traditional northern meal (khan tok) for dinner will have to pay 350 baht each.
