Brazilian conductor Ligia Amadio will be back to lead the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra for "A New World", a special concert to be performed at Mahidol University's Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, on Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm.
The programme will feature Raging Fire, one of Narong Prangcharoen's newest works for orchestra, which looks at humankind's relationship with fire, from its calm meditative qualities to its devastating destructive powers.
The concert will see Dieter Flury, legendary flautist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, as guest soloist, performing the fresh, whimsical and festive Flute Concerto In D Major, Op 283, written by Carl Reinecke in 1908. It was the last concerto before his death two years later.
Praised for her energetic, natural stage presence and versatile technical dexterity, Amadio will also conduct the orchestra in Dvorak's Symphony No.9 In E Minor, Op 95, popularly known as the New World Symphony.
Inspired by his stay in the US as director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892-95, Czech composer Dvorak used Native American melodies and African-American spirituals throughout the piece's four intense and playful movements.
