A new Winter Wonderland is coming to Walthamstow this Christmas

A Winter Wonderland is coming to Walthamstow for the first time this Christmas.

Walthamstow Town Square Gardens will welcome up to 40,000 people a day for the new community run event, set to rival the likes of Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland over the festive period.

The new venture coincides with Walthamstow being named London’s first Borough of Culture earlier this year.

Those attending the new event can go ice skating in Walthamstow town centre, or visit Santa’s workshop and enjoy a family-friendly experience.

There’ll be a ‘Umbrella Bar & Stage’ with live music and seasonal drinks, while a comprehensive array of street vendors will also cater to the crowds, including the likes of ELOTE, Makatcha, Tico's Hotdogs, Holy Cow, Pearls of Sicily, Carpe Diem Pizzas and Yorkshire Burrito.

Festive fun: Winter Wonderland will arrive in Walthamstow this December

The opening party is free to attend on Saturday December 1 at 6pm, and will see the Christmas lights switched on.

Walthamstow Winter Wonderland will then open daily from 10am throughout the festive season.

Creative Director of Walthamstow Winter Wonderland Pol Gallagher says: "We can't wait to bring a quirky, fun and entertaining festive festival back to East London.

“Waltham Forest is set to be London's first borough of culture and we can't wait to kick things off with Walthamstow Winter Wonderland. The team have been working tirelessly to create a unique festive experience set for all ages, from a santa's grotto to boozy singalongs with mates.”

It was also recently revealed that Damon Albarn will be taking part in an outdoor performance at Epping Forest as part of the Borough of Culture initiative.
