A new water park will make big splash with large slides in Aventura, Fla.

The Constrictor, Master Blaster, the Whizzard and Boomerango!

No, they're not comic book villains. They're South Florida's newest spectacular water slides.

The Tidal Cove water park is in the finishing touches at the JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa in Aventura.

It will open in the first quarter of this year and will be available only to those staying at the hotel. Room rates start at $529, plus a club membership that starts at $75 for a day of access to services and social activities.

The park will feature these slides: The Constrictor, a 558-foot slide; Master Blaster, a 486-foot slide; Boomerango, a 377-foot slide; Whizzard, a 266-foot racer slide; and two Aqua Drop body slides at 348 feet and 286 feet.

The water park expansion adds to the destination's existing facilities, which include a beach-entry style pool and a lazy river that winds through a one-eighth mile of tropical foliage.

South Florida has few water park options, which includes Grapeland Water Park in Miami.

Rapids Water Park, a 30-acre attraction in Palm Beach County, is South Florida's largest.

A plan to bring a Wet 'n' Wild to Fort Lauderdale near Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport failed last fall.

Meanwhile, Great Wolf Lodge, a nationally known chain of indoor water park resorts, is considering opening its first spot in Florida _ and one of the possibilities is Pompano Beach.
