YOUNG and old will delight in the entertainment on offer at Christmas Under The Stars in King Edward Park this Saturday, December 7.
Newcastle Permanent's Christmas Under the Stars, brought to you by the City of Newcastle and the Newcastle Herald, will combine live performances with an outdoor cinema.
The free event will involve leading acts from Star Struck, as well as teenage singer Riley Paige, with acclaimed local recording artist Marty Worrall also leading the crowd in a selection of festive favourites. Even Santa will make an appearance.
Organisers are hailing it as a "fresh take" on the traditional King Edward Park carols format. Family-friendly movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell, will be shown on a big screen about 8.45pm.
Newcastle Permanent chief executive Bernadette Inglis said she was excited by the prospects of the city's newest festive event.
"Christmas Under the Stars will bring together the finest Hunter performers for an evening full of carols and Christmas cheer, catering for all ages," Ms Inglis said.
"We're looking forward to coming together and sharing this special time of year with our community.
"... We're thrilled to continue the long-standing carols tradition at King Edward Park for local families to enjoy."
Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said Christmas Under the Stars was a "wonderful community event that truly brings our iconic King Edward Park to life".
"We're proud to partner with Newcastle Permanent and the Newcastle Herald, and to provide sponsorship support for this free, family favourite event that provides entertainment for all ages," Cr Nelmes said.
Herald editor Heath Harrison said the paper had helped present an annual carols event in King Edward Park for close to four decades.
Jackson and Matty from NEW-FM will host Saturday's fun, starting at 5.30pm.
A free shuttle bus will run from 4pm from the Bar Beach and Bolton Street car parks.
