A new takeaway on Cambuslang Main Street given the green light

A new takeaway is set to open up on Cambuslang Main Street.

South Lanarkshire councillors at the planning committee meeting yesterday (August 16), agreed to the change the use of a retail unit to hot food takeaway premises.

The application site is located at 78 Main Street, in Cambuslang, and is a former retail unit, it was last used as a florist and has been vacant for over a year.

Most of the surrounding units are in commercial use, with an existing hot food takeaway and convenience store to one side of the premises and a restaurant and pub to the other with some residential properties on the upper floors.

Statutory neighbourhood notification was carried out and it received six letters of objection related to there being too many hot food takeaway shops in the area and that there should be more retail units to encourage people back to Cambuslang Main Street.

These concerns were addressed by council officers who said the increase in online shopping has led to reduced demand for retail units, the current property has been vacant for over a year and there has been no replacement.

The proposal will bring the vacant unit back into use and allow for employment opportunities.
