A new report highlights the risks and dilemmas facing further education

The further education (FE) sector has faced countless challenges in recent times, and the coming years are set to be no different. Austerity and ongoing funding cuts have brought lasting changes upon the sector, whilst risks arising from partnerships, staffing issues and student competition have made the risk landscape increasingly complex.

The report, which identifies the top risks facing the FE and ranks them according to likelihood and impact, appreciates the difficulties in understanding and responding to the challenges which could cause income loss, damage to reputation and even closure. Embracing new policies presents additional risks which, if not managed well, could have similar results.

Yet it’s also clear that with effective preparation and a full risk management strategy in place, such challenges should not stop FE institutions from fulfilling their vital educational role.
