A new pocket park could be created in Liverpool City Centre

New plans to create a pocket park in Liverpool City Centre are being brought forward.

Local developer Brickland is planning to submit plans to Liverpool City Council for a new green space development within the Pall Mall area of the city centre.

It is hoped the pocket park could attract wildlife and birds as well as offering a pleasant place foe those working in the city's business district to relax and gather.

If approved, the garden area would be created on an area of land within Pownall Square, which lies off Tithebarn Street.

The plan has already got the backing of city centre councillor Christine Banks, who believes it could be an exciting addition to her ward.

She said: "With all of the exciting developments in progress, the city centre has needed new green and open space.

"It not only helps attract wildlife - such as birds, bees and butterflies - but it can also have a positive impact on residents’ mental and physical health as well as their overall wellbeing.

"That’s why I wholeheartedly welcome Brickland’s plans for Pownall Square.

"It will be a great addition to the offer in our area and I’m very much looking forward to seeing the proposals come to life.”

The application is likely to be determined by the city council's planning committee within the next couple of months.
