A new Lidl store is opening in Cardiff Bay with an in-store bakery

A new Lidl store is opening in Cardiff bay, the supermarket chain has announced.

The store will open at the Cardiff Bay Retail Park, after plans were given the go-ahead by Cardiff council.

The supermarket marks the ninth for Lidl in the capital, with the latest site set to create up to 40 jobs.

It'll span more than 1,200 sq m and include an in-store bakery. Works for the new store will commence later this year.

The budget chain will take over the store currently occupied by Poundstretcher at the retail park.

Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Paul Hebblethwaite, said: “We could not be more delighted to have received planning permission.

"This would mark our ninth store for Cardiff and it will be fantastic to serve the local area in the Bay with our fresh, quality, great value products in the not too distant future. We very much look forward to getting started on our fit-out programme in due course."

The new supermarket is part of the company’s £1.3bn investment plans across the UK in 2021 and 2022.
