A New Hyundai Tucson Is Coming for 2027. Here's Everything We Know

The Hyundai Tucson turns 20 this year, believe it or not. With that, the brand's best-selling vehicle is set to undergo a major refresh. Even though it’s such an important model for Hyundai, it appears the automaker has no plans to play it safe with the next-generation revamp.

We expect the new Tucson to grow, with a slightly longer wheelbase version arriving in the United States. It'll be boxier, too, and packed with Hyundai's latest powertrain and infotainment technology. But a few key changes might put the crossover out of reach for some.

There's a lot we still don't know about the new Tucson, which is still a few years away from going on sale. But there are plenty of rumors hinting at what’s to come for Hyundai’s best seller.

This is everything we know about the next-generation Hyundai Tucson so far.

What Will the New Hyundai Tucson Look Like?

The next-generation Tucson will have a boxier design that follows the styling of the Santa Fe and Palisade. It’s expected to have black pillars in the rear, giving it a "floating roof" design, and it will be less curvaceous than the current crossover. We also expect some bold lighting elements front and rear—rumors suggest it could even have a clamshell hood.

Inside, the Tucson will debut Hyundai’s new Pleos operating system, equipped with the AI voice assistant "Gleo." There will be large displays and advanced driving assistance features, but Hyundai has confirmed that the company will maintain some physical controls to manage the main functions.

Passenger space will remain one of the Tucson’s strengths, with a particular focus on practicality. Expect even more room behind the second row of seats, as well.

What’s Under the Hood?

Hyundai currently offers gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrain options on the Tucson, but this may change for the next-generation model, according to the Korean Car Blog. Some rumors suggest Hyundai will drop the pure gasoline engine entirely and transform the Tucson into a hybrid-only model.

The current hybrid features a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor, producing 231 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. The next-gen Tucson is likely to feature Hyundai's new TMED-II hybrid system, introduced on the new Palisade, but with the smaller engine.

There are rumors that Hyundai will offer a hotter Tucson N, according to Auto Express. for the first time. It will allegedly have a new hybrid powertrain with over 295 horsepower, featuring an electric motor on the rear axle to provide all-wheel drive.

It's unclear what changes Hyundai will make to the plug-in hybrid. The current one uses the same 1.6-liter engine as the regular hybrid but with a more powerful electric motor and larger battery, with over 32 miles of pure electric range. The system makes a combined output of 268 hp and 271 lb-ft.

When Will the New Tucson Debut?

The fourth-generation Tucson isn't that old, but Hyundai understands the importance of keeping its best-selling model feeling fresh in a competitive segment. The current car entered production for the 2022 model year and received a facelift for 2025, so it's not that outdated.

We don't expect Hyundai to reveal the new Tucson until sometime in the second half of next year, and that'll likely be for Korea first, as Hyundai still staggers debuts for different markets. Even if it breaks cover next year, it won't go on sale in America until the 2027 or 2028 model year.

How Much Will the 2027 Hyundai Tucson Cost?

With Hyundai allegedly dropping the gasoline engine from the new Tucson, the starting price could creep up. The 2025 Tucson starts at $30,200 for the 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas-powered one. The hybrid starts at $35,460, while the plug-in hybrid costs $41,225.

Without a gasoline model, the next-generation crossover could cost more to start. Hyundai isn't the only brand moving to hybrid-only power. The 2026 RAV4 won't have a pure-gas option when it goes on sale.
