A new Frozen spin-off focused on Olaf the snowman is coming to Disney+ soon

A beloved character from Frozen is getting their own origin story which will debut on Disney+.

The origins of Olaf, a fan-favourite star of the animated classic Frozen, will be explored in a new short titled Once Upon a Snowman.

As reported by Deadline, the short will debut on Disney+ on October 23.

The short will explore the time between when Elsa created him as she was building her ice palace, and the moment Anna and Kristoff first meet him in the forest.

Josh Gad, who voiced Olaf in Frozen and Frozen 2, will return to voice the snowman for the short film.

“This is an idea that started to form when I was an animator on the first Frozen,” the animation supervisor for Olaf in Frozen 2, Trent Correy, told Deadline.

“[Story artist] Dan Abraham and I are so grateful and excited to have had the opportunity to direct this short, working with our incredible colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios.”

“Josh Gad gives one of the great animated voice performances as Olaf through the Frozen films,” said Abraham.

“To have the opportunity to work with him in the recording booth was such a privilege and career highlight.”

Frozen 2, the sequel to the smash hit animated feature, arrived on Disney+ in July.

The sequel became the second-highest grossing animated film of all time upon its release in 2019.

Once Upon a Snowman is slated to be released on Disney+ on October 23.
