A former picture framing shop in Stokes Croft could be reopened as a new cafe, shared work space and music production studios.
Plans have been submitted to Bristol City Council to transform the former Niche Frames store, which relocated to Zetland Road in November 2019 after being based in Stokes Croft for 30 years.
The front of the ground floor will feature a barista cafe and the rear will be converted to shared office workspace. The basement will accommodate further workspace, along with a meeting room, two music production studios and shower and toilet facilities.
The first floor will be laid out as open workspace, along with three small office studios, an ancillary kitchen area and a further music production studio.
They plan to have the workspace, meeting room and music studios functioning on a very flexible basis, with space available for short and long term rentals on an individual or group basis.
The company behind the new business venture is Planning Ventures Ltd.
Their planning application states: “Within the wider context, the proposed cafe, workspace and music production studios will offer enhancement to the Stokes Croft Conservation Area by representing an active frontage to the street, reinforcing the diversity of uses in this part of Stokes Croft, improving its visual qualities and ensuring the long-term maintenance and occupation of the building which will reduce the run-down nature of the area.”
