A new cabaret club is opening at the former Wow Bar in Cardiff on Friday

A new LGBT+ venue will be opening as lockdown restrictions are eased.

Main Stage Cabaret Bar will be replacing WoW Bar which had recently closed due to economic complications brought on by the coronavirus.

In an announcement on their Facebook page, resident drag queen, Etta Buffet, says the venue is currently taking bookings and will be open from Friday, August 7.

She said: "We are doing bookings on our Facebook page, but we will be doing 20% walk-ins.

"Do go and support our LGBT+ venues in Cardiff. We just can't wait to welcome you back."

Landlord, Marc Schofield, has described the opening as a "whirlwind".

“The last couple of weeks were a bit of a whirlwind. I felt that Minsky’s gone and WoW going, our scene is getting a little bit smaller. It’s a shame," he said.

But in the lead up to the venue opening on Friday, visitors can be assured that the new bar will add something new and exciting to the LGBT+ scene in Cardiff.

After Minsky's closure earlier this year due to leasing problems and WoW Bar soon after, Marc spotted a gap in the market for an LGBT+ venue that specifically targeted cabaret and live music acts.

"I came up with the concept of Main Stage as there was a gap there for a cabaret bar, which is not just cabaret but also live music," Marc adds.

“The drag scene here is absolutely massive and we need to keep that. Having something different with a different variety, I think Cardiff really needs it.

“We are here, it’s going to be a little bit different. We’ve completely re-decorated it and there’s going to be more cabaret moving forward in the future."
