What's happening near the Moose?
A few doors down from the nightclub institution that is Mooseheads, in the space where Outback Jack's used to be, the windows have been covered up, concealing what looks to be renovation works inside.
In the window, there's a notice of an application from Caftor Pty Ltd, the company that owns and runs the nearby club, to amend the premises' liquor licence, address, floor plan and occupancy loading.
The venue faces directly onto the intersection of Northbourne Avenue and London Circuit, one of Civic's most prominent facades.
But the famously private owners are remaining tight-lipped about their plans for the space that once housed another Canberra icon, Fletcher Jones.
The business-and-casual-wear emporium traded in the prominent location on the corner of the Sydney Building for 50 years, until it went into administration in 2011.
The site was sold to an investor in 2013, and despite the owners of Mooseheads being involved, any plans to expand at the time were nixed.
Meanwhile, Outback Jack's Bar and Grill, a franchise, moved in and traded there until the onset of Covid last year.
Mooseheads, Canberra's longest-running nightclub, first opened its doors in the early 1990s, and has since seen a couple of generations of - mostly young - Canberrans come and go through its doors.
