A mysterious white foam has appeared overnight on the River Irwell .
The unknown substance was seen along large stretches of the waterway in Salford this morning.
Photographs taken by people on their early commute show the foam near to Broughton Bridge and parts of the waterway nearer to Manchester city centre .
It's not clear what has caused the foam or where it has come from.
The Manchester Evening News has contacted the Environment Agency for a comment about what has happened on the river.
