A musical play area is being planned for Bute Park but you'll need to pay for it to be built

Plans for a new play area in the middle of Bute Park have been announced - but people will need to donate money to make it happen.

Cardiff council wants to build a "percussion and Play" area of interactive outdoor instruments , but it is dependant on people donating the £18,000 needed to build it.

They expect it will take up to 18 months to raise the money.

The idea is for interactive and accessible musical play equipment such as drums, chimes, xylophones and other percussion pieces to be built along the path of the Summerhouse café and woodland balance trail in "Old Man's Woods".

Cabinet member Cllr Peter Bradbury said: "We know that Bute Park is a very special place for many of our residents and visitors. This exciting new project will allow children - and adults – to come together to make music, play and investigate their natural surroundings.

"Our ambition is for Cardiff to be recognised as a Child Friendly City and as a great place to grow up, so I’m delighted that we will soon be able to offer these new accessible and multisensory opportunities in our flag-ship city centre park. Furthermore, music can have such a positive impact on mental health so to be able to access these amazing sounding instruments in such a beautiful setting as Bute Park, could also support visitors’ well-being.”

The council are asking for donations of £18,106.90, there is currently £575.30 in the pot. Donations can be made by visiting the Bute Park website or by scanning a QR code, stickers and posters throughout the park or by calling the office on 029 2087 2730 during the park's office hours.

The money donated will only be used on this scheme.
