A Motherwell and Wishaw hustings has been organised

A hustings event will take place for election candidates in Motherwell and Wishaw.

Organised by Derek Watson, it will take place Wednesday November 27 in the Glo Centre, Motherwell.

Three candidates have been confirmed so far: Marion Fellows (SNP), Angela Feeney (Labour) and Christopher Wilson (Liberal Democrats).

Derek said: “This is an election that is going to be very tight and I think it is important everyone votes, and knows what they are voting for.

“This seat in the last election was won by the SNP by only 318 votes so it all to play for.”

Derek is hoping to lead the debate on the night, before giving the audience a chance to ask any questions to the candidates.

"I think everyone should have the right to ask questions and hear what the candidates are saying.

So the event will also be live streamed via my podcast, allowing people who can’t make it along ask the panelists what they want.”

Some of the candidates have spoke to the Wishaw Press and said what they think of the event.

Marion Fellows said: “As the previous MP, I’ve made the community a priority in my work.

“I’m looking forward to outlining my strong record and setting out the SNP’s vision for the Motherwell and Wishaw constituency and Scotland.”

Angela Feeney said: “This event will give me the chance as the candidate to put forward Labour’s manifesto that will transform the lives of people in Motherwell and Wishaw.

“This election is about which Party is better positioned to help lift people out of poverty.”

Christopher Wilson said: “This is a really good thing Derek has organised. This will be my first time standing as an MP and my first hustings, so it will be a great experience.

“I am from Motherwell so I am honoured to be able to stand as MP for my home constituency.”

Megan Gallacher, Conservative and Unionist candidate, won’t be taking part in the hustings. She told us: “It is a very busy and short campaign. I will be on the doorsteps speaking to voters.”

The event will take place next week and will be a £2 donation on the door. Derek said: “I have tried to make it as cheap as possible for voters to come along.

“The doors open about 7:30 and things will kick off shortly after, so make sure you are down early if you are coming.”

For more information on the event and the live stream you can find the event on Facebook under 2019 General Election Motherwell & Wishaw Hustings.
