A monumental spot for family on Monumental Road, Ayr

In days of yore, it was the main drag from Ayr to Alloway.

Peasants and country folk would trundle their horses and carts between the big estates of Rozelle and Belleisle.

Robert Burns would have walked it many a time.

When the Burns Monument was built in 1823, this old road would naturally become known as the road to the monument.

And as Rob Close’s excellent book ‘The Street Names of Ayr’ tells us, it formally became Monument Road in 1889.

Not so many humble country folk pass this way now: if they did this is cap doffing territory.

Window welcome Imagine waking up to those leafy green views (Ayrshrire Post)

A gorgeous four bed villa ‘Rosewood’ is on sale for offers over £445,000 with top Ayr estate agency Black Hay.

And Graeme Lumsden, director/valuer says: “If you want to combine a country house in the town, then Rosewood would be an ideal place to call home.”

The house - boasting distinctive gable chimneys - is shielded perfectly by a privet trimmed to with an inch of its life as well as a red-sandstone wall and entrance pillars.

You get a very trad layout with both main public rooms facing front through bays from either side of the front door.

All ground accommodation save for the conservatory is accessed directly from the superbroad hall.

Relax A lovely spot to unwind (Ayrshrire Post)

There is one bedroom here, but with the prospect of another. The selling family have lived in Rosewood for more than 30 years and currently have a rear reception as a sitting room.

The clever use of eight pane glass doors and wooden floors lets the light filter through.

Upstairs has two big bedrooms, the master ensuite, and a box bedroom.

Like many of the properties on Monument, the plots are over-sized, so an abundance of room.

This home has a detached garage and a log store, to fuel the fire in the lounge.

All in all a lovely prospect for a new family to move in for a generation or two.
