A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness - review

Patrick Ness, Siobhan Dowd, A Monster Calls

This book, despite what the title says, is not a monster book with zombies and ghosts. This is actually a very deep book about a boy whose mother is struggling against cancer. The boy is called Conor. Each day is a battle for him, whether it be a gang of bullies, neglectful teachers, or a terrible nightmare that haunts Conor day and night. But in this time of need Conor is not alone. The great yew tree in his garden has gone walking, calling his name. With the help of his newfound companion Conor will be able to let go of the past and finally accept the truth…

I found this book very sad but touching. I'd recommend it to able readers as the plot is quite subtle. A Monster Calls is an amazing story so please read it!
