A Midsummer Night's Dream star David Moorst trained at circus school to play Shakespeare's Puck

Actor David Moorst revealed how he trained at a circus school to prepare for his role as Shakespeare’s mischievous character Puck.

Moorst, 27, stars alongside Game Of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie in the production and spent a gruelling three months learning how to do aerial acrobatics ahead of the run.

He said: “I trained at the National Centre for Circus Arts, in Old Street, for about three and a half months twice a week before starting rehearsals.

"It was these horrible workouts to get me in shape to bring my strength up, and then learning the skill of doing it.”

He added: “I threw myself into it and hopefully I don’t look like the actor hanging down among a whole bunch of aerial artists.”

Moorst, who won the Emerging Talent Award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards in 2015, said Christie is “a fantastic person to work with, she’s great fun”.

The play’s modern take has audience participation and pop songs “which I think is only a good thing".
