A metal barrier has been put up to stop caravans pitching up on a public park in Newport after residents complained about the area being left in a "disgusting mess."
Newport council has put up the barrier on the park in Duffryn known locally as Sandpiper Park following complaints in the area over unauthorised access to the park in recent months.
In July residents complained after around 30 caravans pitched up on the park, which is often used by children and sports teams.
One resident reported that while an initial group had not caused trouble, a number of caravans arrived at the park in a second incident and claimed adjacent woods were left in a "disgusting mess."
Now, the council has opted for a permanent solution following meetings with residents and local representatives.
A metal barrier has now been installed at the entrance to the park, with an alternative access track for vehicles that still need to use it.
The park remains open for pedestrians and cyclists.
A spokesperson for Newport council said: "Following consultation with local residents and members, the council has undertaken work to stop unauthorised vehicles accessing Sandpiper Park.
"We have constructed an alternative access track and installed suitable restrictor barriers to ensure the footway is safely available for pedestrians/cyclists.
"Large stone boulders have also been installed to the perimeter of the grass verge to restrict unauthorised access in the future.
"Authorised vehicles can still access the site should the need arise via the locked barrier."
