A Manchester student has built a perfect replica of G-A-Y on The Sims

A Manchester student has spent days building an uncanny replica of one of Manchester's most beloved LGBT nightclubs - on The Sims 2.

Micah Scott, who is in his fourth year at the Royal Northern College of Music, has painstakingly recreated every detail of Canal Street's G-A-Y on the computer game.

In a series of screengrabs posted on Twitter, he's shown off a tour of the virtual venue, including the upstairs balcony and even the magenta-painted toilets.

Every purple corner of the popular bar has been built in Sims format, including a virtual DJ who Micah said is now 'trapped' in the DJ booth.

Micah's Sims G-A-Y comes just a week after fellow gamer Dorota Debicka built a version of indie club 42s on Minecraft.

Micah, who is studying tuba at RNCM, said he built the club 'out of a mix of boredom in lockdown and longing for fulfilment'.

A resident of Rusholme, he added: "I think what’s so great about the Sims franchise is that it gives us the opportunity to create snippets of our real lives, whether that be making ourselves into sims, or building places that we hold dear to us.

"It’s our own little world of our favourite things and it’s a game I’ve held very close to my heart since I was around eight years old."

Micah is back in his hometown of St Andrews during lockdown, and said: "I miss my colleagues [at Clarks Shoes] so much. And also my university and all of my pals I have there.

"I miss Manchester in general though, and I’d be back there now if it weren’t for Miss Rona."

His followers have heaped praise on his Sims handwork.

One user posted: "This is such a faithful representation I feel like Jodie Foster when Hannibal Lecter drew Florence from memory."

Another wrote: "The balcony is literally a replica wow, we love an architect!"

Someone else quipped: "You deserve free entry to GAY for life for this. Please tell me it's overpacked during pride as well?"
