A Manchester bar is giving a free bottle of fizz to anyone who had a lockdown birthday

If you had your birthday during lockdown, the best celebration you could hope for was probably some drinks over Zoom or a socially-distanced garden gathering.

Even the latter is out of the question for now, under the current restrictions in Greater Manchester.

A Manchester bar is offering to make it up to anyone who couldn't go out to enjoy their big day by treating them to belated birthday drinks in September.

Sandinista is offering either a bottle of prosecco or five bottles of beer to people who spent their birthday in lockdown, when they book in between September 1 and 30.

The deal is also available at its basement speakeasy Blind Tyger, as well as at the bar group's Blind Tyger and Smokestack venues in Leeds.

To qualify, your birthday must have been between March 21 (the day bars were ordered to close) and July 4 (when they were allowed to reopen), and you'll need to flash a valid form of ID to redeem the offer.

Sharing details of the offer on Facebook, the Sandinista team wrote: "Lockdown 2020 took us all by surprise, and one of the things we know it affected was everyone’s birthday. Birthdays in lockdown were not what we wanted, or expected. So, as a little treat Sandinista Ltd, which includes Smokestack, Blind Tyger (Manchester & Leeds) and Sandinista, have put together a little promotion together.

"If your birthday fell between the 21st of March – 4th of July 2020 join us at any of our venues between the 1st of September – 30th of September and claim either 5 Beers or a Bottle of Prosecco on us.

You’ll need your ID to prove when your birthdate is. But that’s it! Simple!"

Situated just off St Ann's Square on Old Bank Street, the Latin American-influenced Sandinista serves tapas, burritos, nachos and empanadas, along with cocktails, wine and beer.

Blind Tyger opened beneath it last year, serving a range of prohibition-era cocktails and drinks.

Until restrictions are relaxed, people living in Greater Manchester are only allowed to go to bars and restaurants with members of their immediate household or support bubble.

The measures, put in place last month to curb rising rates of coronavirus in parts of the region, are expected to be reviewed again this week.
