A man was shot outside a takeaway on the A6 in Levenshulme - this is what we know

A man is in hospital after he was shot on a busy road in Levenshulme.

Emergency services were called to the A6 Stockport Road, at the junction of Matthews Lane, after a gunman opened fire last night (Monday).

The stretch was sealed off, with a large number of police vehicles and paramedics seen within the cordon.

The victim was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said the man's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The shooting happened just before 5.15pm on Monday, October 7, outside the Canadian Charcoal takeaway.

Police erected a 200m cordon around the scene and specialist officers could be seen examining the road for evidence.

The road closures have since been lifted.

A takeaway worker, who gave his name as Awat, said: "I heard what I though was fireworks.

"When I came back, a guy was on the floor.

"Many people were around him. He was shouting in pain, he was screaming. He was tensing his arms in pain.

"He was between 22 and 25. Eight or nine people were around him.

"After a few minutes police and ambulance came. They took him away.

"That's the first time something like this has happened."

GMP said in a statement: "At around 5.15pm on Monday, October 7, police were called to Stockport Road in Levenshulme to reports that a man had been shot.

"The man has been taken to hospital for treatment; however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this time.

"Police are currently in attendance and enquiries are ongoing."
