A woman films herself enjoying a drink at a bar in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Then, a man approaches her and whispers something in her ear that makes her cringe.
In a video with over 507,000 views, TikToker KB (@kizzie.nicole1) holds a drink in a plastic cup. A man to the right puts his hands on the drink and leans in.
What did the man ask the TikToker at the bar?
On-screen text reads, “A man in a women’s field (he tried to get me to buy him a drink).”
KB furrows her brow and cringes as he asks her to foot the bill. He reaches for the drink in her hand again.
She turns to him and mouths, “Buy you a drink?!” The man continues to pester her for a drink, as she sits at the bar with a disgusted expression.
Typically, men cover drinks for women they would like to get to know better as a kind gesture at the bar. However, KB seems confused by the sudden role reversal.
The caption reads, “I was GONE..I don’t even remember this, but my facial expressions crack me up.”
What do other bar-goers think of the man’s request?
Male bar-goers have garnered criticism on social media recently for expecting so-called “princess treatment” when they go out. Viral TikToks show men standing on elevated platforms and behind the DJ booth, spots once reserved for women to dance on.
Commenters suggest that the man who asked KB to buy him a drink is connected to straight men “ruining” bar and club culture.
“They are reversing their role and taking it seriously with this princess treatment,” one says.
“HOW do men not see this interaction.. with him towering over her, CONSTANTLY pushing back, grabbing her drink and NOT be ashamed of themselves..,” another asks.
“Watching this on the heels of all the videos of men in the club standing on platforms and speakers when (in my days) that would get them booted from the club,” a third adds.
Other women share their own experiences navigating men’s new expectations at bars.
“I had a man buying my drinks and after two he was like ‘but when are you going to buy me one?’ I never bought him one,” a commenter writes.
“Noo this happened to me a couple weeks ago.. is this the start of no more free drinks for the ladies??” another laments.
“Last time a guy asked me to buy him a drink with no shame and i just laughed in his face cause aint no way you just asked me that bye,” a third says.
