A man has died following an industrial accident at a warehouse in Holmfirth.

Emergency services were called to Mean Lane in Meltham at around 7pm yesterday, YorkshireLive reports.

Several police vehicles, ambulances and a fire engine were pictured at the scene.

Much of the attention appeared to be on a building where two road surfacing companies are based.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "Police are investigating after a man died at a work premises on Mean Lane, Holmfirth.

"Officers were called at 6.48pm by the ambulance service to the workplace to reports a man was not breathing.

"A 53-year-old man died a short while later."

There are unconfirmed reports that an air ambulance landed at a nearby cricket field shortly after emergency services arrived on Mean Lane.

The police spokesperson added: "Enquiries are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive have been notified."
