A man has died in a car smash after suffering a 'medical episode'

A man has died after apparently suffering a medical episode before a car smashed into a wall.

Police rushed to the scene in Scout Road in Egerton, Bolton, at around 11.10am this morning (Sunday, May 23) after reports a Jeep Wrangler had crashed into a wall.

The collision came 'following a believed medical episode', officers have said.

Emergency services attended and, despite the best efforts of paramedics, a 74-year-old man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances, Greater Manchester Police has said, and officers are appealing for information about the incident.

Scout Road was closed at the junction with Belmont Road for several hours as police began enquiries, but has since reopened.

PC Neil Pennington, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the man's family at this very difficult time.

"This collision happened in broad daylight, and I am confident that there are a number of people who witnessed this tragic incident and may have dashcam footage of the car leading up to this collision.

"If you have any information or dashcam footage that could assist our enquiries, please do not hesitate to get in touch."

Anyone with information should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, quoting incident number 1422 of 23/05/21.

Reports can also be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
