A man has died after being pulled from the Bridgewater Canal in Altrincham

A man has died after being pulled from the Bridgewater Canal in Altrincham.

Emergency services rushed to the stretch of water off Manchester Road at around 3pm on Saturday.

A man in his 60s was pulled from the canal and taken to Wythenshawe Hospital where he later died.

Greater Manchester Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called to reports of a man who had been found in the canal in Altrincham at around 3pm on Saturday 6 October.

"Police, fire and ambulance attended and the man in his 60’s was pulled from the canal by a joint effort.

"He was taken to Wythenshawe hospital where, despite best efforts of the emergency services, he sadly died.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death."

A large police, fire and ambulance service response near the Altrincham Retail Park  was reported on Saturday afternoon.

The incident lasted for around 40 minutes.
