A widely-shared Facebook post alleging that a man tried to snatch an 8-year-old girl in the Princes Street branch of Primark is currently being investigated by police in Edinburgh.
In the post, written by a woman called Claire , she claims that her 8-year-old niece was in Primark with her mother Hayley and a friend, when a man who was following them in the shop tried to snatch the small girl.
She went on to say that the child got a "fright" and didn't let go of her mother's hand for the rest of the day.
Police in Edinburgh have confirmed that the incident has been reported to them, but not by the mother of the child, and it seems unclear who actually witnessed the man try to abduct the girl.
A police spokesperson said:
"Police in Edinburgh received a report of suspicious behaviour at a shop in Princes Street on Monday 19 August. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances around this."
