A majority of Americans want new witnesses in Trump's impeachment trial

Several polls out this week show a majority of Americans would like to see Congress bring forward new witnesses to testify in President Trump's impeachment trial.

The state of play: Democrats could be a few Republican votes short to call new witnesses, Axios' Alayna Treene and Jonathan Swan previously reported.


  • Several players involved in the investigation regarding Ukraine, like Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former national security adviser John Bolton, have said they would testify if subpoenaed by Congress.

By the numbers: Polling out Friday from ABC News and the Washington Post shows 66% of Americans want the Senate to call new witnesses. Several other polls this week returned with similar approval for witnesses:
