A luxury floating hotel has opened on Edinburgh’s waterfront

Edinburgh has welcomed a unique resident to its waterfront this morning with the opening of a new floating hotel at Alexandra Dock on the historic port of Leith.

Fingal by The Royal Yacht Britannia was originally built in 1963 by the prestigious Blythswood Ship Building Company in Glasgow. It was used to sail stormy seas, transporting equipment to some of the most remote lighthouses in Scotland.

Now, after a £5 million development, Fingal has been transformed into a luxury five-star hotel with each cabin named after a Stevenson lighthouse.

The interiors have been inspired by her maritime heritage, with polished woods, nautical touches, Scottish leathers and sea-inspired colour palettes.

On board, The Lighthouse Bar is set to become a new local favourite, serving cocktails and champagne on a granite-topped bar under a sparkling glass ceiling. Guests can also dine in the grand ballroom with a sweeping staircase, transporting them to a bygone era of elegance.

Guests will be able to choose from one of the 23 rooms, including classic cabins, duplex cabins and the penthouse suite which has a private dining area, private deck and a large living area accented with statement wallpapers and velvet touches.

While staying on board Fingal, you can explore Leith or head into Edinburgh’s famous old town to walk down the Royal Mile, visit Edinburgh Castle or hike up Arthur’s Seat.

Rooms on Fingal start from £300 per night based on two people sharing, including VAT and a full Scottish breakfast. Reservations are now being taken for stays from today, January 7, 2019. For bookings, please call +44 (0)131 3575000 or visit fingal.co.uk/
