'A lot of things went on' - Nottingham Forest old boy recalls City Ground exit

Garath McCleary has admitted he did not want to leave Nottingham Forest back in 2012.

The winger spent four-and-a-half years at the City Ground, making 123 appearances and scoring 13 goals for the club.

After his contract expired at the end of the 2011-12 season, the Jamaica international joined Reading on a free transfer.

He has gone on to play 262 times for the Royals to date, scoring 27 goals for the Championship outfit.

McCleary looked back on his Forest career in a Q&A session on Instagram.

Asked if he had wanted to leave the Reds, the 32-year-old replied: "I didn't but a lot of things went on."

However, McCleary still remembers his time at the City Ground fondly, adding: "I really enjoyed my time and still have fond memories. Great club."

McCleary also picked out Forest's 7-3 win over Leeds United in March 2012 - in which he scored four goals - as the best game of his career.

"100%, and this team was the best I played with I think for everything, talent, (work) ethic, togetherness, mentality, really enjoyable, some great characters," he said.
