A lot of screen for little money

Wiko has been doing business in Thailand for a few years now and has proven that it is good at producing smartphones that punch above their price tag. The Wiko View 2 Pro follows this trend.

This sub-10k phone has a 6-inch, bright, near bezel-less screen, with a little front camera notch (that's smaller than iPhone X's) at the top of the unconventional 19:9 screen. This ratio allows for consuming vertical content like Facebook and Twitter, but games are not usually made with this aspect ratio in mind and may look a bit stretched or spill over on the edges. The phone uses most of its front side as a display, reaching an astounding screen-to-body ratio of 80%.

The front camera detects your face for instant unlocking without any need for a button press, which can be very convenient when picking up your phone. I can't assure you that this unlocking method is as secure as others, like full face scanning or Samsung's or Apple's, but nobody in my sample of a few dozens of friends was able to unlock it (without pointing the phone straight at my face, of course).

If you're still worried about the face unlock function, simply using the fingerprint scanner at the back will do just fine.

The phone's low price tag shows on the back panel that feels a bit flimsy and does bend when you apply a bit of pressure, such as squeezing it a little harder than usual.

The included processor seems insufficient for intense gaming. You can forget about joining a Realm Of Valor session with your friends, unless you are prepared to suffer serious lagging and likely subsequent defeat.

Android purist rejoice! Wiko uses original Android with very little icing on the top aside from a few smart gestures to launch apps (like the camera), triggered by drawing shapes on the phone's locked screen. This makes the phone quite efficient and snappy, as little space is taken up by the operating system, leaving you with more space for music, movies or… Line chat logs, I guess. The UI is pretty barebone but since it's Android, you have the ability to add to and customise the look and feel of it to your heart's content anyway.

The phone has a dual rear camera set up with one wide camera lens and one telephoto lens that can take professional looking wide angle scenery, portrait and bouquet photos. Too bad that the camera's pro mode has far fewer settings than those of top brands like Oppo, Samsung or Apple.

Normally, frontal cameras on smart phones do a lot less than their rear counterparts, but this one's is pretty much equivalent to the rear one, which will certainly please selfie maniacs.

The Wiko View 2 Pro is a great choice for people who want a phone with a nice and very big screen, an unbloated UI and a small price tag.
