A Looney Tunes art trail has arrived in Manchester

A raft of familiar Looney Tunes cartoon characters have appeared on the streets of Manchester this week as a new art trail comes to town.

Visitors to the city centre will be able to seek out the likes of Bugs Bunny, Tweety Pie, the Tasmanian Devil and Wile E. Coyote at locations from Piccadilly to Spinningfields.

The art trail officially opened on Wednesday - but poor Daffy Duck has already vanished after he was mistakenly removed by a cleaning team.

The team behind the family-friendly project are now working to have him reinstated.

The walking tour features 11 of the studio's most-loved characters, with an interactive map spanning 12 locations.

It's been created in partnership with Warner Bros. UK and Manchester BID, with street artist Captain Kris putting the artwork in place alongside collective Blank Walls.

The trail has arrived in Manchester to mark Space Jam: A New Legacy hitting cinemas next month.

Those venturing out on the trail will be able to find Speedy Gonzalez sprinting through Spinningfields, Bugs Bunny bursting out of Primark, Porky Pig popping a pipe at Pen and Pencil, Wile E. Coyote chasing Road Runner around Symphony Park, and the Looney Tunes gang skateboarding through Deansgate Square.

Daffy is expected to return to the Exchange Square tram stop soon.

A spokesperson said: "There is always a risk with any art in the public realm that it may be vandalised or removed, but we are working on having him reinstated to the Exchange Square tram stop as soon as possible, so the whole gang is back together."

Each piece of art also includes a QR code which will take you to a virtual map.

Vaughan Allen, chief executive of CityCo and Manchester BID said: "Manchester is renowned for its street art which is well-loved by residents, workers and visitors.

"We’re delighted to be partnering with the legendary Warner Bros company to bring its iconic Looney Tunes characters to the city centre for this fun, family-friendly, outdoor art trail.

"Following the success of our recent Manchester Flower Show this is a great way of continuing to animate the city this summer in support of our business community."

Captain Kris added: "Like most people, I’ve loved Looney Tunes since I was a child.

"It’s been a lot of fun creating these cheeky, adventurous poses, with the Looney Tunes characters wreaking havoc across Manchester."

The trail is in place from now until the end of July.
