Long-standing RTÉ journalist Caitriona Perry announced that she was leaving the national broadcaster after nearly 16 years of service.

Caitriona’s marriage

Caitriona is happily married and rarely speaks about her partner, opting not to share his name publicly, as he doesn’t work in the media.

They have two children and welcomed their daughter and very first child in July 2019. Her son, arrived in September 2022.

The newsreader outlined why she likes to keep their marriage away from online social media sites.

“My husband doesn’t work in the media and doesn’t want people to know his name and that’s fair enough,” she told Irish Country Magazine.

“Now that I have a daughter, it will be up to her to decide when she’s older whether she wants her name in the public or not.

“I feel like so much of our lives are shared now through social media that you have to keep something back for yourself.

“I think your work is your work and your home life is your home life and you should be able to separate them.”

Where abouts does Caitriona work?

Caitriona has been working with RTE for many years, in a variety of different roles.

However, she revealed that she is leaving the RTÉ after getting a job with BBC as their News Chief Presenter, based in Washington DC.

She was in the United States before while working as RTE’s Washington Correspondent between February 2013 to December 2017.

The whole family will be moving stateside for her new job, with Caitriona saying: “I’ll be finishing up in RTE in the coming weeks and I’m pleased to say that I will be joining the BBC in a new international role, as BBC News Chief Presenter, based in Washington DC.

“It is really exciting to get the opportunity to be at the forefront of the @bbcnews coverage, bringing news to a global audience of nearly 500 million people.

2I’ll start that role at the end of the summer and in the meantime my family and I will be packing up to move back to Washington DC to begin another chapter, picking up where we left off in 2018.”

What is Caitriona’s life in Ireland like?

Another quietly kept subject, she has told RSVP how she loves to have guests at home and make dinners for the entire family.

"Throw all different veggies, some meat or fish, some herbs and some stock or crème fraiche in a baking tray, pop it in the oven and bang you have a delicious and nutritious meal that will feed everyone and can be reheated for a second day," she said.

The Six One News presenter stated that there is "no better feeling" than knowing you have food left over for dinner and zero effort is required after work!

She added: "On the weekends, I have time to be more adventurous, and make dinners that require more than just one or two pots!

"I love having a group of friends over for dinner and doing the whole starter, mains, desserts thing.

"That hasn't happened for so long now with the lockdown, and I really can't wait for those days to come back again."
