Dear readers _ ah, once more it's time,
To look back on the year, in rhyme.
Twelve months flew by, at lightning speed ...
I barely found the time to read!
So let's return, to darken'd places
Where movies screened, with sky-high faces
And look back, on what shocked and thrilled
(And caused a lot of popcorn spilled).
From tiny _ like the cats of "Kedi"
To extra-big _ hello, "Last Jedi"!
On spectacle our eyes did feast:
Be our guests, Beauty and Beast!
In "Wonder Woman," Earth was saved
And "Coco" made the critics rave.
Cruise went running in "The Mummy"
Jackman's "Showman"? Well, it's hummy.
"mother!" led my eyes to cross
And Baldwin was a baby "Boss."
Liam Neeson got "Mark Felt"-ed;
"The Snowman," well ... I guess it melted.
"King Arthur" reigned, but I've forgotten;
"Pirates 5" was misbegotten.
Of movie fashion I'm quite fond:
I'll need those coats, "Atomic Blonde"!
Plus "Quiet Passion's" rustling skirts
"My Cousin Rachel's" linen shirts
And on this list I've also piled
The lacy gowns of "The Beguiled."
All hats on Judi Dench's head
And EVERYTHING in "Phantom Thread."
One movie sparked my New Year's plea:
To be snowbound with Idris E.
And two gave fruit unlikely fame:
"Girls Trip" and "Call Me By Your Name."
Gazing back, some films shine bright:
Like "Loving Vincent's" starry night
The true romance of "The Big Sick"
The way "Dunkirk" made time seem quick
The girls in "Step" who dreamed so high
Those "Baby Driver" cars that fly.
Sweet "Lady Bird" _ like mom, like daughter _
The beauty of "The Shape of Water"
How "Get Out" made us scream and think
And Michelle Pfeiffer's perfect wink.
Let's end the year on that bright note,
And let our eyes to '18 float
Where we can hope that gems await _
(I like the looks of "Ocean's 8"!)
One final wish, and then I'm done:
Happy New Year, everyone!
