A look back at 80s fashion in Glasgow and all the trends you’re bound to remember

The fact that the start of the 80s was over 40 years ago is a lot to take in for some of us.

What can also be difficult is recalling our fashion choices from the time, and the 80s had some questionable trends. But it wasn’t all bad - was it?

While first thoughts of the styles at the time may conjure up images of Madonna, neon colours and leg warmers - the reality was a little different. With a revival of 80s fashion happening in recent years, we’re led to believe something must have been working back then.

With shoulder pads aplenty, mom jeans as far as the eye could see, and some questionable hairstyles - no one could argue the 80s weren’t a time of bold choices. With more women entering boardrooms and climbing the corporate ladder, they wanted a strong image - and in came the power suit.

A different kind of suit was gaining popularity on the streets, the track suit. Along with this, denim skirts, jackets and jeans were on the rise.

Here in Glasgow, while we were enjoying a decade of rapid change, we were doing it in style.
