A look at rookie Kyler Murray betting odds

The 2019 NFL Draft came to a close on Saturday and we are off into field prep mode for the next few months. Rookie minicamps will soon begin followed by the training camps just before the season starts in September. for great betting opportunities ahead of the season while the odds are still fresh.

One of the hottest picks in the season is quarterback Kyler Murray, Cardinals first overall pick. After dealing away Josh Rosen, Murray is likely to be the starter under Kliff Kingsbury. Murray will definitely be a favorite in the fantasy roosters.

Sportsbooks are offering odds on whether or not Murray will take the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, and also his individual performance during the season. His odds stand at+200, followed by Dwayne Haskins + 800, Marquise Brown +900, TJ Hockenson +1000, and Josh Jacobs +1100.

Historically, running backs have won the award 64.5% of the time, while only 8 quarterbacks have won it. But during the past 15 years the NFL has become more pass-focused and quarterbacks friendly; seven quarterbacks have won Rookie Of The Year in recent times.

Considering The Cardinals ended 3-13 on the previous season, no matter how great Murray is this will be a tough challenge. The latest quarterbacks to take the award have averaged 9.7 wins per rookie campaign; a quarterback doesn’t need his team to win games in order to win the award. Cam Newton won it in 2011 with just 6 wins. Sam Bradford did it with only 7, and both Vince Young and RG3 did it with 9.

What matters are not how many games they win or if they make it to the playoff, but how many starts they have, and Murray will have plenty of that.

Other prop bets considering the player include.

Murray touchdowns: 20.5 touchdowns (-110 for both over and under)

Murray passing yards: 3,190.5 yards (-125 for over, -103 for under)

It will be interesting to see how the Cardinals step up their game, and they certainly can improve their stats. Kliff Kingsbury has an air raid background, as the league continues to evolve in the passing front, how his partnership with Murray influences the team’s performance will be something to watch.

From a betting perspective, the Cardinals suffering on defense is all more beneficial for the passing game, as they will need more comeback attempts. The addition of Andy Isabella and Hakeem Butler only adds up to the passing game. The overall results of the game doesn’t matter much, this is pure volume play.

Murray’s legs and arms are equally important here, as the total touchdowns imply both passing and rushing. Murray might not beat his 12 rushing touchdowns from last season with Oklahoma. Josh Allen rushed for eight touchdowns last season and Lamar Jackson did 5 rushes.

Murray over 20.5 touchdowns is definitely a great prospect bet to consider just before the season begins.
