A look at how residents at Munches Park in Dalbeattie have got on during coronavirus lockdown

In the latest of our series on how care homes are coping with life under lockdown, this week it’s the turn of residents at Munches Park in Dalbeattie.

Winnie Gibson says the lack of family contact has been the hardest thing to bear.

She said: “The thing I miss most is visitors especially my daughters. I like to keep busy reading my daily paper and magazines and watching television, especially gardening programmes. The carers are so good and we have so many laughs.”

Greta Muirhead agreed: “I really miss seeing my family and friends, getting out and about for a coffee and a chat and going to my house.

“I enjoy the company of others and don’t like to be on my own.

“Some days I feel all I do is eat then have a sleep as I’m so full. I love having my hair done by staff. We just have to get on with it and be safe.”

Eleanor Flinn said: “I miss my family and friends, although they do come to the window and we chat through the glass.

“My favourite pastime is sitting in the gardens and watering the plants. The staff here are very good.”

Sheila McLuskie is also finding the loss of family time hard to bear.

She said: “What I have missed most is my family. I’ve missed going out with them for tea, my shopping trips and people coming in to see me.

“The staff have been great doing my hair and getting me shopping.”

Munches Park manager Carole McMurdo thanked staff for their commitment, the wider community for their support and residents and relatives for their forbearance.

She said: “I give a special message of heartfelt love to those relatives who have had to deal with sadness and loss at this time as it has been exceptionally difficult. Please remember we are still here for you too.

“My biggest hope is that as restrictions are eased, we are able to welcome new residents, and relatives back into the home for a well-deserved hug from their loved ones.”
